Description Printing to PaintJet XL or color PostScript printer from Load

Monitor or Internetwork Monitor may not work

Symptom Printer indicates “line too long” or “undeﬁned” error, fails to print any-

thing, or prints in black and white, even though NETM_PRINT_COLOR is

set.

Details Depending on the conﬁguration of your printer, printing directly from

these NetMetrix applications may not work properly.

Work-Around Print to a ﬁle, then use the appropriate command and options to send the

ﬁle to the printer.

Depending on your set-up, you may need to print to an XWD ﬁle, then

process the ﬁle manually with a third-party utility to convert the XWD

ﬁle to a format suitable for printing. Note that the xpr utility does not

support color PostScript.

Alternatively, you can set the NetMetrix printing environment variables

to the appropriate commands. For details, refer to page 231 of User’s

Guide.

For example, if you want to print color PostScript and you have the

NetPBM utilities in your PATH, you can set the following environment

variables before launching the NetMetrix application:

NETM_PRINT_COLOR=true

NETM_PRINT_COMMAND=”lp -opostscript”

NETM_XPR_COMMAND=”xwdtopnm | pnmtops”

You can then generate color PostScript output and print it from within

Load Monitor or Internetwork Monitor.

(The NetPBM utilities are freely available on the Internet.)
