Switch Fabric Module (WS-C6500-SFM)

Note The Switch Fabric Module is not supported on the Cisco 7603 Internet Router.

The Switch Fabric Module (WS-C6500-SFM), shown in Figure 1-23,requires

Supervisor Engine 2 and must be installed in slots 5 or 6 of the Cisco 7600 series

Internet Router.

For redundancy, you can install a second Switch Fabric Module. The Switch

Fabric Module that is installed first functions as the primary module. When you

install two modules at the same time, the module in slot 5 functions as the primary

module, and the module installed in slot 6 functions as the backup. If you reset

the Switch Fabric Module installed in slot 5, the module in slot 6 becomes the

primary module.

Two front-panel LEDs provide status information for the module and indicate

whether the module is active. The STATUS LED functions are listed in Table 1-15

on page 1-30. (The ACTIVE LED is green when the module is operational and

active, and is orange when the module is in standby mode.)

The front panel on the Switch Fabric Module has a 2-line by 20-character LCD

display. The display allows you to monitor the module’s input/output port traffic

and local bus traffic. The display also displays system information.

Two push buttons are used with the LCD display:

• SELECT—Use this push button switch for LCD display menu selection.
