Conﬁguring Basic Settings for Serial Ports 0 and 1

To conﬁgure basic settings for serial ports 0 and 1, do the following:

Step Command Purpose

router> show interface serial

Display the default conﬁguration.

router> enable

Enable the conﬁguration.

router# configuration

Enter conﬁguration mode.

router(config)# network-clock

base-rate {56k | 64k}

Conﬁgure the network clock base rate setting.

router(config)# interface

serial {0 | 1}

Enter serial interface conﬁguration mode.

router(config-if)# clock rate

network-clock

Conﬁgure the serial interface phase-lock-loop clock speed. The range is

300 to 2400 kbps. There is no default.

router(config-if)# no shutdown

Activate the serial port.

Repeat Steps 5 through 7 to conﬁgure the other serial port.

router(config-if)# exit

Exit interface conﬁguration mode.

router(config)# exit

Exit conﬁguration mode.

router> show interfaces serial

Display the serial port conﬁguration to verify the new settings.
