Cisco ONS 15454 SDH Product Overview

Ethernet

When you provision Multicard EtherSwitch (Figure 18), two or more Ethernet

cards act as a single Layer 2 switch. It supports one VC4-2c circuit or two VC4

circuits. Thebandwidth of thesingle switch formedby the Ethernetcards matches

the bandwidth of the provisioned Ethernet circuit up to VC4-2c worth of

bandwidth.

Ethernet Circuits

The ONS 15454 SDH has three common methods for conﬁguring Ethernet circuits

between ONS nodes: a point-to-point circuit conﬁguration, a shared packet ring

conﬁguration (Multicard EtherSwitch only), and a hub-and-spoke conﬁguration. A

point-to-point circuit conﬁguration is usually used to connect two nodes. More than

two nodes usually connect with a shared packet ring or a hub-and-spoke

conﬁguration. You can also manually cross connect individual Ethernet circuits to an

STM channel on the ONS 15454 SDH optical interface.
