II. Introduction

a. General Information

The Cisco Networking Lab consists of state of the art Cisco routers and switches.

The equipment is placed into three racks, named San Jose, Mexico City, and

Hong Kong. A rack holds a number of “pods” consisting of routers and switches

your group will be assigned to work with during the labs. Each pod will consist

of one or more of the following network devices depending on the lab:

1 Cisco 2511 Cisco Commserver

1 patch panel

6 Cisco 2912 Catalyst switches

6 Cisco 3640 routers

1 Cisco 4003 Catalyst switch

The 2511 Cisco Commserver in each rack connects the switches and routers to a

hub, which has access to the campus LAN through an ATM switch, as shown in

Figure 1. To have access to a router or switch you need to establish a telnet

session to the Commserver.
